johnd, Longjon & Le roux,

Gents, I have to agree with what you all have said.

[QUOTE;485448;le roux]

We could write a book on WG safety. In fact, there’s a thought…

[/QUOTE]

I agree that it is a great thought, but would it be put into practice? Would it really be worth the time and effort (i.e. save lives)? In my experience, non-warrior people (and not necessarily only WGs) want an instant solution. The industry knows this and capitalises on it: "Buy this [evil moering tool] / [nasty guy service] / [ear piercing alarm] / [mini atomic bomb] and all of your problems are solved. But that is not all -- if you sign up for [really spiky and very sharpish solution] today, then you get a free [set of evil Malaysian moering tools with Kraton handles]".

At the risk of stating the obvious, let's face the facts: WGs who are really concerned about their well-being have already done the risk assessment (and have implemented mitigating controls). The ones that haven't are either ill-informed, or have a huge risk appetite, or are really, really good with a concealed sjambok.

I enjoyed all of your inputs -- thank you.

Intrestng topic blue. A few guns with tranquiliser darts the type they use to sedate animals make sure its laced with sedative to put to sleep a 250kg plus human for a few hours. On small holdings a few big terrifying dogs of epic propotions. My only hope is that no punter misbehaves where force will be necessary or where we have to hear or see a wg harmed it leaves a horrible feeling or taste in the mouth.

Kameshang, you should see how pepper spray calms a Rotweiler -- in fact you should see what it does to a bull!

Krav Maga classes + CS Gas = Superwoman....

Sure Krav Maga isn't pretty like some of the asian styles...
It isn't meant to simply get someone off their feet like Judo...
It's brutal and it's sole purpose is to break any attackers shit to pieces so you can run away as fast as your legs can carry you.

Seriously though, a good self defense class plus practicing once a week in something like Krav Maga or even MMA style fighting is a good thing to have when you need to defend yourself as a female.

If you know any police then ask them very nicely to accidentally on purpose lose their CS gas where you can find it and keep it... It's that little black can with the red top on their belt, but be advised, that stuff will wreck you as well so get out once you spray it. In terms of shop bought pepper spray CS gas is like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight.

Agreed that Krav is good -- virtually any Martial Art is good, as good as the Sensei / instructor.

I am not so sure about CS vs pepper spray because I am one of the 10% that are immune to the latter so it would be unfair for me to talk from my own experience (to me CS is far worse, plus more complex decontamination), however the vast majority of those who have experienced both CS and pepper seem to feel that pepper is far worse. CS is also coupled with litigation (consequential physical damage to heart and liver), whereas pepper is pretty clean.
Then there is the "collateral damage" aspect of CS -- in virtually all applications, it is a fogger, so it is great for deploying in a locked room full of trigger-happy armed nasties, but not so great for a targeted spray, shout and shuffle to the exit. It is also great for a crowd if you (and friendlies) are upwind (as the so-called "transformed" Special Task Force discovered in a demonstration at a school a few years ago).
I also know some folk who swear that they would prefer to be shot (wearing a L3 BPV) than to undergo pepper spray training again-- and having personally experienced the former, understand exactly what pain that must be.
So IMHO, pepper is good for the retail market and as long as a WG does not depend on it entirely, is good in direct-stream form.

It is best not to work alone. Another person in the house is always a helping hand in case of trouble. In case you can't run away an alarm system and/or a tazor is a good idea. Also keep cable ties around to fasten the attacker with until help arrives. Pepper spray in a small area may affect you to which you do not want happening. Stick together.
