This is a common occurrence. Late night stop and harassment by police even if people haven't been drinking. Usually the threat of throwing you in the back of a van full of barbarians for some trumped up charge is enough to extract a nice bribe from anyone.

Only in South Africa do the average law abiding citizen fear their own police force. Guess we are becoming more and more just like the rest of Africa.

We suffer the same bullshit, if not worse at the hands of the law. It's ridiculous as solicitation is impossible to prove as all evidence can be circumstantial and entrapment is illegal in SA and won't stand up in court, yet it is not legal? Surely by default it should then be made legal?

When we are raided, if a cop doesn't find illegals, underage ladies or drugs, they have nothing on us, yet we are frightened into giving up our money, belongings and even our bodies in fear of them harassing us or perhaps planting evidence or pressing charges against us for stupid shit like resisting arrest, assault or defeating the ends of justice and they all back each other up so it becomes your word against a few cops. We have no recourse and even when we are attacked and/or raped by clients, pressing charges or reporting an incident can be humiliating and downright impossible often having jokes directed at us that rape means we were not paid as if robbing us of our time and earnings on top of the attack is also a joke.

I read somewhere last year, can't recall if it was in a newspaper, that at least 65% of active police officers have a criminal record. Our government basically gives criminals a badge and authority to abuse their position and cops are no longer the ones you call when you are in danger because they can turn out to be worse then the danger you face, so you rather take your chances.

Most (not all) cops are bribed and often work for the criminal underground and are utilized to terrorize sps. They are even used to make life difficult from one girl to the next if one should have issues with the other and if some girls are perceived to be busy, raids, often illegal are arranged via a girls boyfriend or family members with connections in the cops in order to steal her earnings. Raids can be as stressful and traumatic as being attacked or robbed by burglars even if you are not guilty of anything and what makes it worse is that you have to let them in or you piss them off. If you piss them off, you are at their mercy and they scare you into submission. Then they humiliate girls during the search when they find personal items or items used for our work such as toys, books or lingerie, often asking uncomfortable questions and cracking jokes between themselves.

We are often encouraged to press charges against attackers or police officers that threaten or steal from us, yet bribing the right person or policemen protecting their own could mean that evidence goes missing or the case files just disappear in which case we are left open to the harassment and mercy of those we dared to take a stand against! Justice is only relative to the size of your wallet and who you know in the right places! For the rest of us, justice is usually dished out by karma as we are often rendered powerless by all these factors!

@minime007 your mistake was to give them the "what the fuck you looking at" look.
You don't question a civil servants authority. You appeal to it. The fact is that these guys do have the authority to pull you over. Don't argue and be difficult with them because they can make your life hell.
Be polite and say "yes sir" "no sir"
And if you have been drinking, suck it up and pay the bribe.

Submission and acceptance of their corruption is what has brought the situation to this point! We were raised to respect and adhere to the law, yet they use their positions to threaten and gain financially! Seems we live in the wild west where the law is lawless!

You tell them to F$&# off and deal with the consequences.

Under no circumstances, for any reason, will I bargain with, deal with or negotiate with the bottom feeding scum that masquerades as JMPD.

I'd rather pay thousands in legal fees than one cent to those mouth breathers.

If one doesn't have ones own principles then what do you really have ?

I would advise everyone to steer clear of stating that you're a prosecutor in case you accidentally fumble and say you're a public prosecutor, should they ask. You'll just open up a whole new can of worms if you say so. One day you'll run into an honest officer who will book you just to teach you a lesson - quite a number of public prosecutors have eaten humble pie by trying to use their profession to avoid a holding cell.

The whip is being cracked people (I'm speaking to those in JHB), so don't be so quick to offer them hush money.

With that being said, you're an easy target if you frequent the Sandton CBD, and Rivonia Boulevard. There are always JMPD guys sniffing around. Uber is your solution.

Even if I have had only one beer, I will not drive.
Problem solved.

Well...I may add and subtract a few things from the above statement.
Most public servants are suffering from ego issue. They like to be praised or feared....Therefore, late at night, coming from a drinking place, you encounter a JMPD cop, be polite....Just like Yoni said, use "YES SIR/MA'AM" or "NO SIR/MA'AM". Always have some cash, just in case you do not want the missus to come bail you out, or to hear of what happened.

As law abiding citizen, it is your right to be protected by law officers, therefore still while being polite, you may ask them to let you go just this one time, hey?

The truth is there is no one solution for all method of dealing with dodgy law enforcement personnel. I have written processes and procedures for countless clients regarding this. There are a million variable but the following are the basics.

For a guy: If you speed, drink (a little) and drive, use your phone in the car, skip a red light etc then man up and take it on the chin, you were wrong.

You have a 50/50 chance that if you are respectful, show appropriate remorse and state you are willing without protest to pay the official fine they will tell you to bugger off and not do it again. You are frequently too much work to warrant their effort.

If you have the same passenger(s) regularly prep them on how to react. They should shake their head at you, show appropriate disappointment but not say anything incriminating. If approached by the officer they should say "I was not aware but if you say it was so officer then it must be."

The above also applies but has a near 100% success rate if it is one of those "cool drink" or "chicken licken" stops. Don't pay a bribe, it makes you as criminal as them.

For a lone lady and for guys: I agree with the Dash Cam suggestion. As an extra precaution you can have stickers on the driver's window and windscreen stating "this car is satellite tracked and monitored by camera and audio at all times."

Have a number or numbers in your telephone to call on such occasions, so that someone knows what is happening. Also if you have a smartphone of some sort download a call recording app such as ACR by NLL and leave the line open for the duration of the call.

Everyone: You are legally within your rights to slow down to under 40km, put your hazard lights on and wave out of the driver's window for them to follow you. When doing so drive to the nearest filling station forecourt and stop outside the shop. This way you will ensure that you have witnesses and that everything will be caught on video.

Stay in your car, with the engine running and your hands at 10 to 2 on the wheel and wait until the officer motions you to lower it. Follow his instructions, stay calm, do react to any form of provocation. Smile and be pleasant. When asked for your docu8mentation tell the officer where it is and where you are reaching especially if it is on your person.

If asked to step out of the vehicle do so calmly without huffing and puffing. If queried as to why you did not simply stop for them tell them that this is the advice that you were given by your lawyer during conversation when talking about that story involving the false cops a few months back.

Why the emphasis on respect for pondscum that is the product of an incestuous union? You can't stop them being overbearing, abusive or aggressive, deal with it you simply can't. What you can do is to take control of how you react and do so in a manner that does not allow for any excuses on their part.

Short story: Cop shot and perpetrators exited the area in a blue BMW. A witness obtained the start of the registration plate. 30minutes later my client in a blue BMW with a similar registration plate flashed and sirened but unmarked two cop cars on the highway. He slowed placed hazards on and kept his hands at ten to two.

Within 10 minutes he was outside and engine with guns drawn on him. He exited calmly lay down as instructed and was kicked around. He took it and informed the cops of the make model and location of the firarm in his car. He got beaten a few more times. But he didn't get shot. There are great risks associated with police stops, don't take chances.

Guys trust me, you do not want to end up in jail, even just for one night. If you are not 100% sure you can pass the test, bribe.
