I agree with the sentiments above, keep your personal life and job hunting separate. Not more I can ad on that.

As for explaining why there is a gap in your CV, giving an explanation as suggested by Sibyl is a big no no. Sure there are genuine cases like that, but since you are making up a story in any event, make up a better more positive story. No one wants to hire someone that potentially comes with personal drama. The moment you talk to me about exes and how you were not allowed to work etc, you can forget about the job.

This is the advice I gave to a wg and it worked: you say you took a gap from corporate life and started your own business from home and unfortunately it didn't work out as well as you thought, you can even ad that you miss the corporate environment. The particular wg said she had a catering business. It didnt raise any eyebrows. Don't say that you were into professional massaging it will raise eyebrows as you don't have a formal qualification and people can put 2 and 2 together. Also don't come up with something wack like you were providing spiritual healing services. Catering, hairdressing, anything that is doable without the need for a qualification and which does not raise eyebrows is good and put it on your CV ("Business Owner: Bombay Catering") to deal with the issue up front.

I also have good advice for actually finding a job in today's market. Was given this tip whilst I was helping someone (a wg) with limited experience and qualifications find a job. I did everything I could to put a well polished CV together (without grammar and spelling errors), but you submit your CV on one of these online sites where you register your CV and it goes into a black hole. The fact is you are competing against literally thousands of desperate people out there. In addition a lot of the jobs advertised are scams.

Here's what you do. Register on Gumtree. There is a looking for jobs section. Write yourself a good profile (no spelling errors or grammatical issues like you write here on ESA. Ask someone to check it for you). Briefly set out the areas of experience that you have and your strengths (for example customer service, administration, etc.). Keep it broad enough if you are going to be posting in a range of job categories. At the bottom provide contact details: mobile and email address to enable prospective employers to contact you should they require a copy of your CV. Put up a neat professional looking photo with professional looking clothes on.

Here is the important bit, post new ads every single day in each of your categories so that your ads move to the top and is first spotted. If you write properly and your ads stay fresh you will start getting calls and get invited for interviews. Guaranteed. I think it works because firstly you show enthusiasm, secondly there are less people trying to find work this way, a lot of people's ads just look shockingly bad so with a bit of work you will stand out, also employers are keen to look here as they dont need to pay a recruitment agent.

Once your phone starts ringing you just need to pick carefully as this is unfortunately also where a lot of commission only sales companies find candidates. Ignore those requests and go for the ones that have potential. Not everyone will offer fantastic salaries, but if you are patient you can get a stable job and start working yourself up. Remember you will start at the bottom. Few jobs out there pay more than what you can potentially earn as a wg if you dont have qualifications and limited experience, but that is a whole other discussion.

What?!? No it bloody doesn't! That stuff is only required once you actually start working and the HR department needs it for tax purposes. It absolutely should NOT be on your CV. Full name and phone number yes, but ID number and address? Bloody hell no! But in many cases the punters already know the WG's full name and private phone number.

Bonus CV tips. Most job applications fall over at CV stage. I've learned a lot from reading bad CV's when Ive advertised positions as to what a CV should not look like. Google a great template. I have one that looks super professional and makes my CV stand out. Make sure your CV is without any spelling or grammatical errors, well written and concise so that it is clear what your work experience is, and any qualifications that you may have. Write it in a way that shows your skills. Even if you were just a cashier, write it in a way that shows how those skills can be applied in other jobs. Dont just write "cashier". Add duties such as 1) Liaising with customers. 2) Responsible for float management. 3) Training of new cashiers. 4) Team leader. etc etc. Build on this elsewhwrein your CV, for example "I enjoy working directly with customers. I have also been a team leader in previous roles and enjoy working in a team and leading people." etc. etc. A prospective employer will immediately see potential in areas of their business where your strengths could be applied even if you are not applying for a cashier job. They can teach you the basics of that other position if you are the right person.

Thank you for your concern Miss V

As I stated on my post that I was planning on job hunting but before I do that I was checking first if there's anything I can get from this forum since its full of professionals even if it's just pointing me in the right direction.

I now have details a lot of agencies I wouldn't otherwise have known and from my view my efforts of posting were not in vain. As far as the gap on my cv is concerned I do work as a weight loss consultant Ma'am, I also help people address some health challenges through Nutrition and I have valid references.

People who call me can tell you that many times I would not be at the apartment and would tell them things like today my day starts at 1pm or 2pm (because of the weight loss services I provide).

I also attend short courses and sometimes they take up to 3 weeks which is why sometimes my ad can be off for that long so there are really no gaps on my cv.

Thank you for your concern, I really think it's genuine hence I made an effort to respond because I'm the only one anyway who can give a clear perspective instead of "speculation".

I was actually quickly browsing to see if finally KellyK has been given a break when I saw your post but because I'm getting ready to go for a shoot before I can start my day which I missed yesterday I won't be able to go through other people's opinions right now.
