For the last couple years I have HAD to plan in advance due to work and other daily life commitments.
I also thoroughly research the ladies I would like to see, only because I want to make the most of my free time and so far have never been disappointed.
In the past when I was young and doff I did many spur of the moment punts; some were great while others were bad. But yoh, when they were bad they were bad!

It depends on the mood. I often do pretty thorough research (as I apparently have particular taste) but I have been known to try spur of the moment on occasion. That's never worked for me though.
I do miss out on a lot of WGs from overplanning though.
