This is apparently a common scam. People gain access to an empty place or house sit for people overseas that are waiting to sell and the person shows the house to prospect buyers or rental applicants...they take the deposit from a number of unsuspecting victims and disappear. Are you able to find this guy? Do you know if anything he shared with you is legit in terms of his name, number etc?

That's not cool sorry to hear.

Why not go to the bank and tell them your story and the can have forensics have a look into the account they will freez that account while under investigation. However you might not get your money back but the culprit won't be able to scam the next person.

You can also go to the Estate Agents Board in Sandton to report him if he is a registered agents which I doubt he will be dealt with.

The institute which you deposited the money into will advise you best they will also ask you to go have a affidavit done.

So sorry Mia. People find new and disgusting ways to betray trust and steal what they never worked for. You are a hard worker but sadly you should just put this all to school fees and move on. Its very devastating when some prick scams you out of hard earned money leaving you with nothing more then a hard earned lesson. People aren't all bad, but most of them choose to suck!

My default stance is that all people are assholes... and then work on choosing the good ones.....

It's a process to even recover money via legal channels.....I know it's difficult- but write it off as school fees and move on...
