In my humble opinion if you aren't on SARS radar screen I would probably consider not buying.
May not be worth the hassle on the long run and SARS can be very taxing excuse the pun.

If I could I would not register and just go about my business like many many South Africans are especially in the informal sector.
E.g. Minibus taxi drivers etc make thousands but refuse to have a computerized system for commuters to pay because they pocket all the cash.
If I were you stay low,

I agree with Julian and others who advise against getting on the radar with SARS and may add that property ownership is not all it is made out to be. Buying residential property in the current economic and political climate is risky and a highly illiquid investment.

This means it is very difficult and expensive to sell and get hold of your cash.It recently took me 10 months to sell a property and get hold of the cash. At the current low rate of increases in property prices,it will take around 7 years before you break even when you take all transfer and other costs into account.

Rather invest in unit trusts and stick with big companies like Coronation and Allan Gray if you do.
