If there's one thing I've learned here, it's ...snip ...Gold Members in particular do this A LOT. In my experience, anyway. They're the first to swear up and down that they only approach with respect, but many have a pretty whack idea of what respect actually is in real terms. They're already looking down on you to some degree ... snip

wow there! should i as (i think) reasonable man now not feel offended since im also a gold member?
its easy to unintentionally offend
yes. we get idiots and scum. they are not the same. assume best intent. maybe the guy is not the sharpest pencil but at least i hope he tried to complement. in a world where i have been taken on for opening a door for a lady ("dont you think i can manage that myself?") men dont always feel comfy giving compliments in the real world so now they get to a safe space, feel impressed and put their feet (sounds like often its both :)) in their mouths in trying to give a compliment.
summary;
1. yes there are idiots. some have good intent and others dont care
2. always assume best intent
3. offence can not be given - only taken.
4. remember they are telling you who they are - not who you are...

Noted and actually agreed on all points there, sir. We're talking about a pretty specific dynamic here, not pure generalities. This is stuff we smile through DAILY.
Really don't need a lecture on the finer points. I have lived this. I think I know pretty well for myself.
