Just because you don't understand something, doesn't make it "irrelevant". Hyperbole/exaggeration is fairly common part of language, and you have to be pretty thick to try and impose a literal interpretation to all language. (SA and other courts have routinely found hyperbole exceptions, so if you'd like me to cite some cases just let me know)

But if you want to be pedantic about a purely literal interpretation (that would never stand up):
1) No one has formally taken up the bet. You're all claiming the prize (on BC's behalf) , but not one of you has, as of yet, ponied up an equivalent stake (assuming that he's offering even odds). Try that with a bookmaker, walk in and say I'd like to claim my winnings without first putting up (ie risking) a stake.

2) since you're so keen on imposing strictly literal interpretations, by definition JP can offer up any 'house'. The only requirement (by a strict literal reading of his offer) is that it belong to him. It could be a doll house, a lego house... Hell, it could be a hamster house. If you want to stay strictly literal (other interpretations being "irrelevant") , then by the letter and not the spirit of his offer, that would be perfectly acceptable.

(In as much as its possible to have 'friends' in this space, I would consider JP one, so yeah, I'll stand by him.)
