My suggestion would be to recommend English be the main language of communication in the public/advertisers forums, but allow mix-match languages within. Typical South African speech essentially.

Only if the majority of a post is written in another language should the person be warned.

Three strikes and you're banned. Donate to charity to alleviate the ban.

That would relax the current rules and also allow for warnings/bans when the purple people stray or stray too often.

This could be quite simple.

If the majority of the post is in English with a few (in the Minority) words are in other languages, then allow.

As long as the gist is not diluted, then allow.

We are all adults (hopefully) on the site and can draw our own inferences from the tone of messages..

My tuppence worth.

Why does ESA not install a "Translate Language" app like FB ???

Then everyone can say what they like in any language and we all can click Translate if we don't understand!

Then you will even get Thai ladies and anyone who can't even read English to enjoy the forum!

Problem solved!

What an awesome idea!
Is this possible???
I vote for this!

Dear advertisers and gentlemen

Thank you for the response.

Please tell me how do I stay on top of all the warnings that I should be giving, with multiple users and multiple warning about language, race, religion, advertisers making trouble among themselves? Should I run multiple spreadsheets? when I see a post in another language I must go and see if this user has a warning and how many warning has the user had before he/she should be banned, then we have arguments about the number of warnings he/she has gotten already?

Why should the forum administrators translate languages so that we can understand on multiple posts (wasting many hours when constructive tasks could be done in that time)
It takes less time from one individual to translate what he or she wants to write in English than what it takes the administrators to translate hundreds of posts, time that could be spent fixing actual problems on the site

This forum makes ESA no money, all it does is cost man hours and infrastructure with no return.

I would much rather spend my time making the site better and making sure that all the profiles are perfect so that when you as a member use the site it is as pleasurable as possible. The fact that I need to police grown individuals who clearly have difficulty following a simple rule is not something I write home about.

So now I ask the question again.... What realistically should be done when the ESA language policy is violated?

Given the response above, ESA, it seems that you have to choose between the following:

1. Do away with the language policy

Or

2. Ban those that violate it without issuing any warning.

From the reasons stated by ESA ban and let people learn. They will get it at some point. Case closed.

Maam

As you are quick to ban on a one word violation, try a warning then a ban. Not much admin and qed

Google translate is freely available for anyone to use when they want to understand something that was said in another language. I have used it to purchase for. A Japanese website.

If you don't understand something and are interested in finding out what was said take the time and effort to do some.

By rights the language policy could be deemed unconstitutional and is annoying

What Sibyl said for me as a start.

Then also maybe consider having multiple forums setup for each language and one for where all languages are allowed. You will then soon find that only the last forum gets any traffic and can therefore do away with the rest of the language specific forums.

Can't keep everyone happy but by having this english only policy you are upsetting the vast majority. My 2c

I chose point 1
Do away with the po
licy . This is a open public forum. The stories posted here do not have any educational value. So if you do not understand a topic just move on. It won't kill you
