Just to clarify a couple of points.
1. Everyone earning an income should declare their earnings...

Reality before the tax administration bill came into being

SARS were never allowed to disclose to another authority what your nature of income was, be it of an illegal nature or otherwise.

After the tax admin bill that supercedes any other tax legislation they have to disclose to other authorities the nature and income earned from illegal activities.

My recommendation even now would be to stay off the grid, if possible for as long as possible.

I hope this clears it up. Any proceeds from criminal activity is taxable.

I would love to see all these hijackers reporting the gain of wealth to SARS, All the stolen house hold items that are sold reported to SARS, all the shop lifting "accidents" that take place reported to SARS................ but wait do all people need to report to SARS of any gains, income, wealth etc received?

I have helped and advised a WG (well Massage only) to open up a cc (if you can still get a shelved one) or a company. "It" employes you (reason can be consultant or whatever) and you can claim a "legal" income. You make this income the bare minimum that you can (around R 8000 a month) and you pay a PAYE tax of like R300 odd Rand. Then you know you are covered and you can build a credit history etc... If you can avoid touching the R 8000 you accumulating into a bank account monthly and use the extra cash you have to cover your expenses, with time you will have a decent deposit for a house/apartment and be able to apply for bond etc...
