@deamonza There is a small subtlety you missed. I argued the right to choose for both WG's and Punters. As for me demanding disclosure from other service providers? Yes I do. When I want my Porsche serviced I insist the garage only works on Porsches. If they work on everything, I walk away. I want what I want, and I'm happy for a WG to be the same. I pointed that out but you missed it. It's called target marketing. If a WG wants to only service a certain race group, because they pay better, then she makes an informed business decision. It isn't bigotry. But I'd like to know ahead of time which market she caters to.

Saffer, I am not sure I understand your decision making (I don't disagree with it, I just don't understand it). I want the best mechanic to work on my car. It would seem strange to me to choose a mechanic based on the cars that he services. The best mechanic in Joburg, to the best of my knowledge, works on custom and racing cars. He does not differentiate himself on brand but on quality of his technical understanding.

I am curious, do you use this logic with other decision making?

My 10 cents worth to this topic
Most of us non white punters have been on this site for quite a long time
In that time there have been many WGS that advertised ROAR that we wished didnt, and take note these WGS were probably at their Prime of sexiness so now 5 or so years later these WGS suddenly wake up 1 morning and "Woo Hoo I dig non-white clients too" and suddenly we all forget that 5 years ago they basically showed us the middle finger and now we want to line up to book them?
The economy is crap business is bad so adapt or die as they say!
Thats the way I see it anyways but hey if you in that line goodluck to you just remember "Supply vs Demand"

@Johnd The best mechanic equates to all vehicles equally? That would be a rarity. Perhaps some of you may recall studying Michael Porter (Value Chain). He said that there are 3 ways to position your company.

1. Be the cheapest in the market, which means volume.
2. Be priced at a premium but ensure you offer something exceptional, or premium.
3. Exploit a niche market.

His dire warning? NEVER be stuck in the middle. In other words, don't try and be all things to all people.

To answer you question? Yes, I apply my thinking to everything. I use the equation Value = Benefit - Cost, and I determine my value based on which category I'm in.

If I'm a niche customer, I seek out a WG that caters to my specific needs, and hopefully that info can be gleaned from reviews.

If I'm a price sensitive customer I'd probably shop for quickies from highly rated WGs, but perhaps quality isn't an issue either.

If I want a premium service, I'd be looking for sophistication, elegance and travel.

The risk in this business is that the service becomes a commodity, which means there is no ability to price higher. If I was a WG, with my head screwed on and wanting to make money, I'd definitely target my market.

But, hey, just my 2 cents.

To the chap that suggested that WGs change their target market as they lose their sexiness. Yes, that is logical. Previously she may have been catering to a niche market, but as she ages ir loses her swag she repositions as affordable or premium.

Do we as black African punters really crave the alternatives? Are we that many (punters)? How many of the non black WGs have ever REALLY been called by a local black AFRICAN? I don't think our calls and activities in the non black WG market are that many to warrant a thread. We are good marketing tool though, whether one wants to announce they want us or don't want us, it always gets people's attention.

And you have missed the glaringly obvious... to those with eyes wide open anyway. You are not asking asking them to only work on a Porsche, but on white Porsches only.
Or do you think that white men are Porches and African, Indian, Chinese are something else entirely ?

Any way you cut it, you are viewing your self as a white person as separate and superior to the those of other races, So the answer yes still applies to the question of bigotry.

It's really not that hard to understand.
