In Switzerland and Germany, and I'm sure there are many others, the tertiary education fees are much, much lower than is the case here..

In Switzerland citizens don't pay. www.studyineurope.eu/study-in-switzerland/tuition-fees

In Germany it is minimal, and it varies according to the federal state of the university. www.mastersportal.eu/articles/358/overview-of-tuition-fees-in-germany.html

I support them 100%, however the outcome for there efforts was a complete let down for me , I mean what happens after or during 2016? Up coming of 2017?,they are going to have to use these same tactics to get what they want each year..? I would say for now exams they should focus on there studies to pass really well, and then early 2016 start to campaign for free education for all!!I mean really really campaign.
I think Mr President granted them no increase in 2016, coz municipal elections is coming up etc ..anyway my only gripe is what about there outstanding debts... I spoke to a lady a good friend of mine not in this industry who's studying at wits and she said her fees she owes is already R100000, which made my stomach turn, and now when she completes her studies she won't even be able to buy a house or car coz of this bad debt she has on her name . She will have to work her Ass off for the next 20 years to pay that finished...
I feel really sorry for them..I hope Our President comes up with a good solution instead of trying to sweet talk students.. If I was a Miss President I would say Free Education For All,scrape all bad debt owed by studies ..instead of spending money on unnecessary things ie naming street names, nkandla etc...I wonder what Mandela must be saying in heaven...!!!
Ps: this is only my opinion my experiences.not meant to hurt anyone.
Breaks my heart!!!
I support #Free Education For All!!!

Well, at least there's a moratorium on fee increases for next year.
Not always pleasant, but effective !

Thanks Blk20.
How many students would Nkhandla's cost subsidize?

And the arms deal?
In my opinion hardware bought just for the kickbacks.

Ja well no fine.
Let's vote in ANC-
again and again!

As far as quality goes, Switzerland has universities rated 13th, 34th, 75th, 103rd and 107th, just to mention those rated higher than South Africa's first mention on the list of University of Cape Town at 124th place.

Germany has universities rated at 29th, 67th, 70th, 80th, 81st, 98th and 103rd place, 7 universities rated higher in the world than our best.

Nkandla's wasteful expenditure could easily have paid for a 12,5% subsidy of 32 000 students' complete 3 year bachelor's degree.

To put this into context: a rather small university like UJ has about 50 000 students.

Rightly the honourable and learned Public Protector asked why is there money for various name changes but not for a constitutional right to education.

Furthermore, one could ask how many students could have been subsidised by all the legal fees accrued by this government just in fighting the "spy tapes" and Nkandla?

@Blk20... you will note one thing about those countries, the vast majority of citizens pay a significant portion of their salaries to the tax man.

Is SA the tax payers make up how much of the population ?

When you have over 80% of the adult population actually paying their taxes correctly then there is going to be money for these things, even with overspending.
In SA you have a tiny portion of the population who foots the whole bill every year and it's getting worse with the skills drain.

Just like the rest of the world, if you accept to take on debt to study then you need to pay it... welcome to adulthood, it's isn't all fun and games and toy-toying when you are expected to pay your bills.
She could have also taken another option, she could have chosen to study at UNISA while working full time like thousands of other students without the option of getting government funding in SA.

Nobody forced this onto your friend and as an adult it is her responsibility to settle her debts.

Serious question ? Do you pay a proper amount of taxes ? By that I mean do you pay the proper portion of your earning in this industry to the tax man ?
I am going to work on the assumption that you don't.

So based on that assumption how do you suppose everyone who does pay a fortune every month is going to feel to see that money floated down the drain every year ?
Seriously look at the state of our education system, and more specifically the universities and their current levels of academic failure, now you want to open it completely and have the tax payer fund it as well ???
You must be joking ?
