Aside from that here are some interesting reads

www.babbel.com/en/magazine/the-10-most-spoken-languages-in-the-world/

businesstech.co.za/news/general/104497/the-most-spoken-languages-in-south-africa/

www.rypeapp.com/blog/easiest-languages-to-learn

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_languages_by_total_number_of_speakers

On this last link, its amazing to see the difference between native English speakers (L1) and those that speak English as a second language (L2).

Arz

Thanks for the links Arizona, very informative indeed.

An interesting fact: I stumbled upon a video on youtube a few months ago, about a small community of Afrikaans speaking "farmers" living in Southern Argentina since 1902. They are the descendants of "farmers" who left during the "2nd Farm War" with the British, when many of them had their farms "Expropriated without Compensation" by the British during the war and they were not prepared to live under British rule. To this day, more than a hundred years later, the older generation of this community, are still speaking Afrikaans and still observing their Afrikaans culture. Just goes to show that language and culture can indeed survive, despite the odds, if the people choose to keep it alive.

I know there was talk not so long ago, about also adding Mandarin as additional language in SA schools. It certainly makes sense to offer Mandarin in high school as opposed to Latin, French or German due to it being more widely used worldwide, but then again maybe I am a bit biased, as I do speak a bit of Mandarin as well...lol.

You're a woman of many talents dear Sybil. Can you speak the language of sex in Mandarin, I'm sure you sound sexy too. There's nothing that sounds so sexy for a woman to speak in a foreign language followed by the oohs and aahs....lol

No unfortunately I can't speak sexy words in Mandarin ....lol.

I only know the basics when it comes to Mandarin, enough to communicate on a basic level when living in a Chinese society.

Good evening, I am back from a banning, also one word. The question I am asking is, as I was a gold member, and had no access to whatever for a month, would it be fair for me to request my money back for the month I was banned? This is the first banning in my life, so I am extremely annoyed and disgruntled.
