Which I think is not asking for anyone's 2 cents on the situation and what went down.

Not sure why I am not allowed to ask these objective questions.

Local government clinics do Rapid HIV and STD screening and blood test for free. You get results straight away of the rapid tests. But wait for blood test results.

They also will put you on ARV treatments straight away if you tell them you have been potentially exposed, but not if you just tell them you doing test because you just want to know your status.

They will call you when the blood test results comes back which we all know can take forever with goverment institutions.

And they will tell you to return in 9 weeks to test again whether you do rapid tests or blood tests. As they need to test again after the potential window period if you told them you have been potentially exposed.

These same tests can be done at clicks clinics or your gp.

Prices range between 800-3000 depending if you opt to do just rapid test only or the blood tests and the arv course awell.

You can also buy the rapid test over the counter and self test.

Prices range between 186-600 for the rapid test kits. ( But need to see a gp for ARV prescription)

Hope this helps everyone to get things done faster and get some closure.

I know all this because at one point I was planning on opening a walk in and Online wellness clinic for SPs and Punters. It took a lot of research.

I wanted to maybe stock those rapid test kits to sell to punters and SPS to get people to test more regularly.

I might still do that one day;) But will have to win the lotto first.. starting up things like that ain't cheap.

Both should just go together and get tested. Many pharmacy clinics will do it for less than R300. Or get a home rapid test and do together to prove their status.
I think the heat of the moment shows that both were into each other.. isn't that what most of us want in a booking? Genuine passion?
But definitely safety first in this industry.

I recently read a whatsapp status around HIV and COVID - "if the vaccine gives men (I think) a greater risk of getting HIV, HIV is manageable with ARVs, and you can still live a full life and, well if you get COVID, things can go south very quickly". I have paraphrased from what i remember but the gist is there.

I am by no means taking sides, or advocating that we all be careless but it's really worth looking at facts going forward. HIV prevalence in sex workers is around 60% in SA - that's food for thought in itself. With the overall 14% prevalence as someone pointed out, anytime you are intimate with anyone, you stand a risk of getting any of a plethora of STIs. Punting by nature is a risky business, but we just have to be try and be careful, but we are not always in control. Helicockter, take the advice, get tested, do the PEP. As hard as it is, we have to somehow get over the "fear" of asking for tests (and PEP) in the same way we outgrow the "fear and stigma" of buying condoms etc.

Anyway, maybe as punters and SPs, it's worth really doing research into the risks and mitigation, and in the event that you find yourself on the wrong side of a test, being aware of what you can do about it. I myself have a close family member who's been on ARVs for close to 20 years, and is probably in a better state of health than I am
