Those who understand banking, please help.

I paid a WG by EFT on 5 December 2023. No problem. On 23 Jan 2024 she contacts me saying the bank froze her account since my payment and they want a "payslip" from me to unfreeze the account. From my knowledge, banks don't freeze accounts just because someone paid into that account. They have regulations governing the freezing of accounts and they always notify the client to comply with certain requirements before freezing.

Please chip in.

I've since blocked her.

Definitely sounds like a scam to get you to send them your payslip, they could use that to blackmail you because they would have all your details

Scam - no bank will EVER ask for a third party's information like that.

Why would a payslip be wanted by the bank

My Capitec also got frozen, coz I didn't update my FICA info (from 26 Dec till about the 13th of Jan)

You don't need a payslip to unfreeze your account....she needs to go make an affidavit at police station and certified copy of your ID to sort the issue out

So the payslip thing....nope... Not true..

If u reported the transaction to your bank as a fraudulent transaction, they'll do a check and put her account on hold. No access at all..
In order for her to gain access again she'll have to prove what the money was for that she received, get an affidavit from the police station, copy of ID certified by the cops,go to the bank again, provide them with the docs and they'll take it off hold...
Payslip isn't asked. She's lying...

Payslip maybe to open an account but not when the account is on hold. Not frozen! on hold ,big difference

She's taking u 4 a poes

The payslip thing seems like a farce...a bank does however block your account for funds received from another account. Last year my account was blocked because of funds I received suspected to have been dispensed from a fraudulent account so said funds were suspected to be proceeds of fraud...the only thing my bank requested from me was an email and affidavit stating my knowledge of the funds and a proof of payment from the sender, when all was verified my account was unblocked. The payslip request just sounds like a clogged toilet filled with manure lol..layman's terms, bullshit*wink wink*

The only other explanation is that she meant "proof of payment" and accidentally said "payslip", cos it is plausible that she needs that. But you can judge how proficient her English is...

Oh no. Please don't send anything! They want your personal information for some reason.

Ask your bank to reverse your payment asap.

Still won't make sense though, why would her account be frozen, and what would a pop have to do with anything :)
