I have read a article (think it was The Citizen) where MTN and Vodacom has a new rule that a sim needs to be activated within 3 days after it was Ricad or else u have to Rica it again.

My advise,
ask your gardener or helper to assist. I asked my gardener to get a pre-rica sim for a friend and the next week he got it for me. On Truecaller it shows up with a Nigerian name, but that's the only issue, but there are ways around that as well.
