Dear punters and lovely ladies

Please be careful. I've just seen an extremely high quality fake R200-00 note at the shop a friend of mine works at. It's status, as a fake, was only discovered when the owner took the day's takings, to the bank, the following day.

Only upon closer examination, does one notice that the water mark is slightly different. The logo in the bottom right hand corner also does not glow when the note is checked using one of those machines the banks use. These differences are very easily overlooked when one has a large amount of banknotes to count and the average cashier is highly unlikely to notice them.

Thank you Mr Bond,

feedback is important, and let me assure you the next batch will be better!

I was thinking about conterfeit money the other day. During an episode of "The Blacklist" - a great show - Red Reddington pays for some scheme by giving some dude authentic plates so he could "print as much money as he wanted". I had to chuckle.

The actual artwork on a note is by FAR the easiest stuff to counterfeit. The hard stuff is the ink, the paper, the metal strips, the UV ink, intaglio printing, differing textures of inks in various spots on the notes etc. I suppose I was over-analysing the plot line :)

But yeah its sometimes hard to find fakes especially when it's in a bunch of notes. Hope your friend didn't lose too much money Mr. Bond.

The differences with authentic notes are as follows:
1. The texture of the paper differs slightly, in that it is slightly smoother.
2. The water mark, which should be Madiba's face, doesn't quite resemble him.
3. The logo in the bottom left hand corner doesn't glow when using the machine I referred to in my original post.

In every other respect, the fake resembles the real McCoy perfectly. A cursory inspection of the note, is highly unlikely to reveal the aforementioned differences. These were only noticed after the note was identified as fake and subjected to more intense scrutiny. I certainly would not have identified the note as fake, the first time round.

I hope that helps.

Ps. Please replace "...bottom right hand corner...", in my original post, with "...bottom left hand corner...". I made an error.

You know a fair bit about this stuff. Maybe you and Chmoks can team up and print me a huge pile. LOL. No, fortunately she only lost the R200-00.
