RIP Joburg Firefighters

If you can, pause today at 10am when there is a wreath laying at the building in Sauer Street Joburg CBD where 3 CoJ EMS firefighters tragically lost their lives a week ago.
They're all very brave men and women.

I wonder if the Ruling party skimped on training. They have skimped and corrupted everything else!
Are these men and ladies receiving the best training they deserve?
May they rest in piece!

You need to be qualified to at least Fire Fighter 1, Basic Ambulance Assistant (aka Basic Life Support medic) and HazMat Awareness before you can apply for a job as a FF/EMT with CoJ. (In other words you have to fund at least that level of training yourself to get in to the career)
Not sure if CoJ then upskill employees to FF2 and HazMat Operator. I know they train some as Ambulance Emergency Assistant (aka Intermediate Life Support, who can do drips, and administer a defined list of meds and perform certain procedures.
But CoJ do a huge amount of training for more advanced things like USAR, Urban Search and Rescue, which is hanging off cliffs on ropes, working in pipes etc, with a very demanding fitness test out West on the mines.
I imagine an investigation will determine what actually happened last week.

That is a very good question, let's hope there is an independent commission of enquiry
