I will soon head to Japan and was wondering if it is an offence to decline the services of a geisha if offered by my hosts. I know Japanese people are very fussy when you decline any gift from their side and you might use a business deal.

There are so many small things that can make or brake a deal when dealing with diffirent countries, cultures.

Have never really dealt with the Japanese but do know you always adress the males as san, eg. Suzuki san, Yamaha san.

In dealing with many strange cultures I have found that more often than not , the other party will be more worried about offending you than anything else

This may appear to be an "easy or simple" question, however, the answer is a complex one as it is dependent on various commercial and relationship issues. Based on my experience you need to evaluate the "invitation" if you receive one thoroughly and DO NOT make a "gut" call if it involves commercials.

Accept the invite, if it's offered!
It is part of their culture, and differs according to the regions in Japan.Your host will only offer this to you,if they are aware that you will be comfortable with the scenario.
Do not mistake this for "Sex for Sale", as the services of a Geisha has evolved into an art and is considered, these days for entertainment purposes only.
However, some "Oiran"(Prostitute) houses, use the term Geisha as a front...and have mainly Chinese girls..easily passed on as Japanese..who provide sexual services.

Enjoy your trip.
