It has become standard in most residential complexes in SA to request personal details, for security purposes. Imo it is safe to do so and the only time your details may be used, is if a crime takes place on the premises during the time that you have visited the complex. Then and only then, will your details be used by handing it over to law enforcement, to eliminate you as a suspect.

If you are not comfortable with having your details recorded, then it is best to rather visit ladies/venues who do not operate from a complex. Having said that, as I am sure you are aware, even in private homes, it has become common practice to have cctv for security purposes, so your car registration number and/or face will be recorded in anycase.

Surveillance and disclosure of personal details has unfortunately become a way of life in urban SA and you will be hard pressed to find a place to visit, where your can truly remain anonymous these days.

Or to make an extra few bucks in selling private information. Not even "Popi" will prevent it from doing happening.

If a person goes to complex to have a "sports" massage, or a "health" massage, then it will be very difficult to prove otherwise.

However, if someone goes to a complex and commits a murder, or a serious crime, there's usually a dead body or a seriously injured person etc. The signing for that particular flat number might help in finding the alleged killer.

Make of that whatever you want.

I have managed several complexes with heavy CCTV surveilance and sign in registers.

We only look through the registers if there is an incident. Anything older than 6 months we shred and throw away.

I personally think it is better to "sign in" at a private venue where it is safe.

The Estate where I reside. Is simple. I send you a code and they do all the necessary details from there. They do not ask why you there? They let you through the gate with no questions asked.
