I've seen some posts/comments here from people that mentioned they started punting before the internet and others back in their army days. How old, do you reckon, is the average age of the seasoned punters on this site?

Long before the internet, long before cell phones, long before Arizona was Arizona and a legend (and I am still trying to remember what her name was - maybe she will help me) there was a page of adverts in the Star, you could pick your mg out of a portfolio of pictures at the front desk at Elysium which was not in Randburg, or you could pick your wg out of a line up at Massage City or any of a number of other places or you took your chances at smaller venues. Some of us who were around then can still keep it up - maybe not for as long a we could but there are oldies around.

And there was a smart girl who worked at Elysium and then went on her own and later stared Lothlorian. Can't remember her name but I do remember that the music she played was always the same and included the chorus of the Hebrew slaves. Earlier still there were some good venues in Central Johannesburg and Hillbrow. Then it was still safe to park a car on the street in these places.

For many, many, many years it was safe.
I'm old, I remember.
Then something happened......
So, pray tell me, what changed ?

I used to park my car near the Diplomat hotel . Then I booked a lady from Le Paradis round the corner. The girls knew me well. There was a girl who even invited me to her flat in Hillbrow.

Then it happened:
Oh the horror !

I watched helplessly from my hotel room as a guy casually walked up to my car, took a step back, kicked my car window by the passenger seat in, shards of glass scattered by the pavement. He put his arm in and reached for my car radio and casually walked away, deaf to my shouts of anguish.
The most shocking thing for me was that all the bystanders just watched on nonchalantly.

I never went back to that part of town again. Then I knew: South Africa has changed forever.

Remember all the evenings we spent in Hillbrow / Joubert Park visiting the escort agencies. Only thing on your mind was "koekie". Nowadays your mind is filled with horour if you happen to be in that part of town.
