The 'buddy' Coke size has been reduced to 440ml and there will be no 500ml bottles on the shelves after November as Coca-Cola attempts to cut its customers' sugar consumption.

Priscilla Urquhart, Public Affairs and Communications Manager at Peninsula Beverages saysCoca-Colahas embarked on a journey of education and awareness around sugar consumption, and introducing portion control was important for this.

The "buddy" Coke size has been reduced to 440ml and there will be no 500ml bottles on the shelves after November as Coca-Cola attempts to cut its customers' sugar consumption.

To comments about the price of the new bottle being the same as the 500ml bottle, Urquhart says the price of the new 440ml bottles have remained unchanged because the production costs are the same.

In which serious coke drinkers will still opt for a 2ltr not to mention that they are still using the same amount of sugar to produce the bottle so not sure who is going to believe this bolox campaign but maybe that is just me

You also used to get 2Lt ice cream tubs - now it's 1.8Lt at the same price?
Small Milo 'ready to drink' boxes also smaller but price remains the same.
Sunlight liquid refill the same price as the squeez bottle...the list will go on forever.
Fkn ridiculous...

Even Coca Cola is downsizing :( what a horrible economy.. it's a little trick they use to cut the price for themselves but sell it you at the usual price, I like the way they are saying they doing it for your own health benefits, lying wankers..

Same with locally made chocolate slabs a few years ago. First they went down from 100g to 90g and then down to 80g. Other products have also dropped in weight over the years. Who the fuck are they trying to kid?

This manoeuvre has been around for ages. Reduce size or quantity to avoid increase in price.
I agree that the reasoning is utter bollocks, because why change the size of the Coke Light and Coke zero if the want to reduce the sugar consumption...

Its called Stealthflation. Very sneaky and unethical in my view. The lady from Coke is lying through her nose. Read all about it here:

Clever Move. They accommodate for sugar tax and have nice health story to justify to consumers.

@paul2 FYI sprite and the others you mentioned are all make by coca cola.... what I find interesting it that Pepsi and mountain dew is sold in 600ml bottles! Could this be the point where Pepsi gets more of the market?
