What a pity, I was hoping that SA would be a progressive country and de-criminalize the industry.

Well it is yet to be set in stone.
As far as I understand it will make us the client up for arrest.
It will also introduce facilities that will allow wg's to integrate into normal life.
It might be seen as a positive depends on what they release as the recommendations to change the act.
Also it will be up for publoc debate. Will any of you guys or girls be voicing your opinion?

In my opinion I think its a step in the right direction. In most cases its the ladies being oppressed and discriminated against. Legalizing the selling would mean some level of security for the most vulnerable in this industry. Corrupt cops wont have the power to "confiscate" WG's earnings and also it would allow ladies to work in better "venues" without the constant fear of being kicked out by landlords and forfeiting deposits. The ladies will also be able to report assault incidents with more confidence that action will be taken against the offender. Currently one finds it difficult to do so because the act of selling is illegal.

Just my opinion on the matter

I do not think it is good idea at all...and their "evidence" that suggests that the vast majority of women enter into this industry "out of a lack of choice. Because there are no jobs or they have dropped out of school and have no skills for the job market or because they have experienced childhood abuse", imo is mostly bullshit. Imo they make up the Minority instead........

Sure women are also trafficked in SA, but I think (I stand to be corrected of course) that they make up the minority of sex workers in SA.

All that this legislation will achieve, if it is ever adopted in SA, is to push the sex workers and their clients even more underground, which will put them at more risk of abuse. I for one, am not prepared to be formally registered as a sex worker.

My body belongs to me, and no government or organization should have the power to dictate to me what I can and cannot do with my body and ditto for clients - they should have the right to have sexual encounters with whoever they want to, provided that it is consensual, whether they are paying for it or not.

Calm down.
There is no indication that this will actually become law.
Some people have been asking for it (actually for a long time, so this is nothing new.)
1. the swedish guy said that trafficking increased in germany and new zealand where sex work has been decriminalisted.
actually traficking is almost non-existant in germany and new zealand.
2. if this ever becomes law in sa there will be big problems.
sweden has unemployment of only 7%, in sa its about 40%.
swedens cops are not corrupt, in sa there is a prob with corruption.
3. I doubt this will ever become law in sa
4. if it does its still a long way off.
5. btw nobody knows what the law commissions recomendations are.
6. if the article gives the impression the recommendation is for the swedish model - this is incorrect.
it may or may nor may not contain this recommendation, but at this stage nobody knows because the law commission report has not been released.
when will the report be released? nobody knows.
even if it does recommend this, it's still up for discussion, and from what i gather some of the powers that be realise that a "sa solution" has to be found, sa is very different from sweden.
