I am always on the lookout for seriously hot sauces, and when I was in the US ibrought back some good stuff.Yesterday I was given what is known as a "ghost chilli".I can normally chop up a few green chillies and sprinkle them over the chow, but this version just about took the top of my skull off.I'm going to have go into training and learn to aquire the taste.

hey bud.. i love hot sauces and chillie.

1 of my most fav is a locally made habanero sauce from the Shisa stable.. u should def try that.

In the US, theres an asian hot sauce called Siracha ... not extremely hot, but by far one of the tastiest sauces iv tried.

lol ghost chilli is hardcore.. at 1 tym it was rated as the hottest pepper on earth. it is still on the top 10 in the world but there are plenty other hot peppers out there.. most of them are hybrid peppers.

what i suggest you do to the ghost pepper, is buy a nice bottle of olive oil and drop a few pieces of the ghost pepper in it.. let it infuse for a bit and use that in your fav dishes for that delicious ghost chilli taste. u can also grind some coarse salt with a few pieces of the chilli to make a chilli salt.

what i also do is, make my own home-made chilli sauce... with different types of chilli, fromm the not so hot to the hot stuff., nice roasted tomatoes , garlic, oniions, etc etc .. simmer, blend, serve with pretty much anything..

hope this helps

What pleasure do you derive from a burning sensation in your mouth , and a burning sensation in your fundament when you excrete it ?

I remove the chillie pips in my cookery. Moderate heat is ok.
Any more than that does an injury to your bowels.

it is difficult to explain. It is weird and most people wont understand this.

It comes down to a each to his own sort of thing.

@ocali,yes I do experiment, your sauce sounds great.I would take a sauce like that and stir a teaspoonful into scrambled eggs whilst cooking then serve on toast.
If anyone out there uses ghost chillies, wear surgical gloves when handling them.
@Ben,the way to enjoy a good sauce or curry is that 1your brow must sweat. 2.your eyes must water, and 3.your nasel passages must clear. If you come to Dbn pm me and I'll treat you to lunch at Mrs. Govenders in Umbilo.

And it's not about trying to eat the hottest stuff around,It's more like creating a balance between flavour and heat.

@bush Every Friday we have Govenders for dinner. My dads obsessed with that place. Food isn't that hot there. I have had hotter. Personally I prefer Johnny's Roti. @Ocali any chance you could cook me something one day and I eat it off you? Regarding the chilli and sauce topic I prefer Lea and Perins Pepper sauce but love jalapenos. They are so not hot. I worked in an Indian restaurant once and I can tell you about hot. They used to have a dish called sizzlers and when I would bring it through it would be steaming and spitting oil on me like a venomous snake, had to hold it with wooden board and cloth. I would get burnt from the spitting oil. The steam would make you cry like a man who saw a hot women. Then eating it would burn your tongue off and the next day, well you would know about it.

So Vasco de Gama introduced chillies from South America to India.

And then the Indians took that vegetable to a whole new level !

Methinks mirchi will make LillyWhite turn into Lal Bedi.

@Lilly,I agree Govenders curry is not that hot,but it has a nice flavour. You can also get a decent curry at the Brittania hotel. But the best is when I ask one of the indian ladies at work to make me a seriously hot curry.Who remembers the old "British Middle East and Indian sporting and dining club" which is where cash converters is now at game city?
